The restaurant has been fully booked for six weeks.
He already knows this.
He doesn't use the website. Doesn't open the app. He calls the restaurant directly and asks — not for the host, not for reservations — for the floor manager.
When the manager answers, he doesn't ask whether there's availability. He asks whether Thursday would be a good evening to bring a small group for dinner. Whether the kitchen would be at its best.
He's not requesting a favor.
He's offering the manager an opportunity to do his job exceptionally well.
There's a pause on the line.
"Let me see what I can arrange."
Eighteen minutes later, his phone rings.
A table exists that didn't exist before. Corner position. Away from the pass. Exactly right.
No connection was called in. No name was dropped. Nothing was demanded.
He simply understood that the person on the other end of the line had the authority to solve the problem — and spoke to him accordingly.
The reservation system said no.
He didn't ask the reservation system.
